Guy Ride 2000

Sunday

Blairsville - Bryson City - Cherokee - Blue Ridge Parkway - Rosman - Cashiers - Highlands - Franklin - Hayesville

Sunday was cool with a threat of rain.  After breakfast at the Hole in the Wall Restaurant we headed north on US-10 toward Cherokee.  Near Cherokee we picked up the Blue Ridge Parkway east to SR-215, then south to Rosman.  We turned west on US-64 through Cashiers and Highlands and on toward Franklin.  Rain began to fall.    Since Tim's bike was the only one on the trip without a windshield, we let him fight the rain as long as he wanted.  With Tim in the lead we raced the rain storm around Franklin and turned south to Hayesville.  Arriving in Hayesville, we found that our favorite restaurant, Country Cottage, was closed.  We pulled under the canopy of the BP gas station next door just as the rain began to fall in buckets.

We stop for a break at the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway near Cherokee.

Clouds race across the Blue Ridge Parkway.  While the rain never materialized, the ride along the Blue Ridge to SR-215 was a chilly one.

Curvy roads and beautiful scenery.  What more could a biker ask for?

Pat, Tim, Rooster and Ricky contemplate the weather before moving on up the parkway.

Tim pleads "not guilty" as the group shares a laugh.

The mountains are always beautiful.  Rainy and foggy days bring out a special mood.

The photo doesn't do justice to the beauty of this view.  Notice the small lake near the center of the picture.

After riding though rain around Franklin, we pulled into the Country Cottage in Hayesville to find that the restaurant was closed.  We ducked under the BP canopy next door just as the rain came thundering down.

Rooster leans against the gas pump to escape the rain.

Tim took the brunt of the rain as we raced the cloud through Franklin.  Tim's bike looks cool and sounds great, but doesn't have a windshield.  He rode about half an hour through rain at highway speeds.  Although he was tired, cold, and wet, he didn't let the weather dampen his spirits.

The Country Cottage in Hayesville has great food.  Too bad it was closed when we visited on Sunday.
